The Finals
June 1st, 2008 under General. [ Comments: none ]

There isn’t a team I dislike more than the Detroit Red Wings. But I am also a true hockey fan and have to say they really have an amazing team. But that’s not to say the Pens don’t have a chance. They showed they can hang with the big boys in Game 3. They need to keep that momentum going to keep that chance alive. Fingers crossed for Monday at the Joe.

Team Changes
June 1st, 2008 under General. [ Comments: none ]

Adding Doug Armstrong to the front office is just another big move in the rebuilding of the Blues organization. John Davidson has made much progress and the young prospects they’ve signed, give me much hope for the team’s future.

All the talk about Barry Melrose becoming the next coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning may be just that… talk. We’ll see in the next few days though. He does have a cushy job with ESPN and that would be hard to leave. But if coaching is his passion, he shouldn’t pass it up. Although I’m not sure he’s the right fit in TB. He’ll have some good basic foundation to work with but there is definitely a lack of chemistry and that is the most important thing to fix.

When in Rome, Do as the Romans Do
April 29th, 2008 under General. [ Comments: none ]

So I honestly never thought I’d see the day that I would be rooting for the Colorado Avalanche… but that day has come. Because I live in Boulder, I am kind of forced to root for the home team (well, I haven’t necessarily been forced by anyone other than my friend, Mona, but…).

Games one and two are behind us and I can only pray for the best to come for my boys back home at the Pepsi Center. Smyth is out with an injury, as is Wolski so we’re definitely feeling the heat from injuries. However, Forsberg is probable and Hannan is back in.

Theodore better be on his game or I will be cursing him and Quenneville and martyring Peter Budaj. Go Avs! (It still feels weird to even type. But I’ll get over it. I’m not leaving Colorado anytime soon.)

Anyone who has seen an incident like this while watching a game knows how gruesome it is. Your heart stops and your mind races hoping it isn’t a serious injury. Some can’t even stomach it. I know it’s hard for me to watch the Malarchuk incident from years ago. And the one incident I saw while watching a game was the Trent McCleary incident which made me twinge quite uncomfortably.

I wasn’t watching the Panthers game that night, although they are my native home team. Having done an internship for them, I certainly feel I have a connection with the organization and it’s players. My heart and thoughts go out to Richard’s family and to Olli as well. I’m sure that’s hard on him. Although it was obviously an accident, it still hurts for the player that caused an injury like this one.

Good luck in your recovery, buddy! Hope to see you back on the ice!

That’s Right Baby…

The last meeting between the Blues and Stars was certainly nothing short of exciting. This contest was only diffferent by the final score. The Blues played hard and hit the net as much possible and their effort paid off. Kariya was on point as was Walt. We got great play out of our vets and our babies. That’s the way they need to keep playing if we want to be playoff contenders. Nice fight by King. And of course the two goals by Boyes never hurts. These boys are playing hard and it’s great to watch.

I got the chance to meet a fellow Blues fan at the local sports bar I watched the game at. So that’s cool and now I have a buddy to cheer with me next game I hit up.

Rollin’ Out Right in ‘08

Last year sucked for me, personally, so I’m looking forward to a brand spankin’ new year. So far I must say it’s started off pretty nicely. My Blues are looking so much better this season and I’ve already won a lunch from my boss who is a Red Wings fan (ugh!).

I already have my Valentine’s Day planned accordingly… at the Pepsi Center for the Blues/Avs game. I didn’t make it to the first game they played here (didn’t miss much).

To my commenter who asked where I watch Blues games in the Mile High City, I don’t have any particular place cuz I’m in Boulder. But would totally love to find a Blues group to watch games with. Shoot me an email to thehockeychick@gmail.com.

Next game is Tuesday against the Blue Jackets who we haven’t had the best luck against. But the Blues are still awesome to watch no matter what. Hope everyone had good holidays!

The Face of American Hockey
November 8th, 2007 under Game Specific, General, Player Specific, Scoring, Western Conference. [ Comments: 2 ]

He’s already known as the franchise player, but now he’s sealed the deal. Mike Modano breaking the record for most points by an American-born player isn’t much of a shock. Anyone who watches hockey had a feeling this day would come.

Not that this isn’t a huge feat, it’s quite the opposite. And he didn’t just quietly break the record… oh no. He went to the extreme by tying and breaking within 4:24.

I’m just glad the Sharks and their fans were more respectful than the Predators =)

Certainly a big congratualtions to Mike and the Stars on the win and he truly is the face of American hockey.

Time to Be Creative
October 12th, 2007 under General. [ Comments: 2 ]

It’s been a long time… but there have been many changes in my life which have interrupted my love for hockey. But no longer.

Unfortunately, I can’t afford the hockey package this year, so I will have to find a new favorite sports bar in Avs territory to watch Blues games (everyone pray for me, please).

That will begin tonight, but I will be able to watch from the comfort of my own home since the Blues are playing the Avs (in St. Louis, of course or else I’d be at the Pepsi Center).

Those of you that have frequently checked back to see if I’ve updated, thanks for your support. I will not be taking another hiatus of that extent again.

With that said, I will be posting my reaction to tonight’s game tomorrow. Stay tuned…

Ugh, Suspended Again????
June 4th, 2007 under General. [ Comments: 2 ]

Is this a conspiracy or what? Pronger getting suspended for Game 4 in the Detroit series and now in this series… quite the coincidence. Did he deserve these punishments? Personally, I don’t think so. He’s a big guy. He didn’t hit anyone with ill-intent. I don’t believe he’s a dirty player. I think he doesn’t know his own size and strength. I’m sure many of you will disagree with me. What do you think?

Good Timing
April 20th, 2007 under General. [ Comments: none ]

Timing in the playoffs is everything. Which is why Sean Hill getting suspended for 20 games doesn’t quite help the Islanders. Especially since they’re facing elimination tonight against the Sabres. I’m an Islanders-hater, so it doesn’t effect me much.

The Rangers came charging out of the gate, which not many expected (except the Rangers fans of course, but I think even they may have been surprised). Congrats on the advance, although I was hoping for a better series from those teams.

I don’t like the Lightning or the Devils… but I dislike the Lightning more, so I hope the Devils win that series.

Minnesota fought hard, but the Ducks are just a stronger team. I called them to end up in the finals. So we’ll see…
